Million-Selling 'Nigashita Sakana' Light Novel Confirmed for Spring 2026 TV Anime Adaptation

The acclaimed fantasy romance light novel series, Nigashita Sakana wa Ookikatta ga Tsuriageta Sakana ga Ookisugita Ken, written by Mayo Momoyo, is confirmed for a television anime adaptation. This highly anticipated series is scheduled to premiere in Spring 2026.

The narrative began as a short story on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in October 2020, quickly gaining popularity and leading to a sequel in December 2020. Its success attracted Square Enix, which began publishing it under their SQEX Novel light novel imprint in August 2021. Illustrated by Itsuki Mito, the series has achieved significant circulation, with over one million copies as of December 2024, reflecting its blend of fantasy and romance.

The anime adaptation is being produced by TROYCA studio, with Akira Oguro directing. Michiko Yokote, known for her extensive writing work, is handling the series composition, and Isamu Suzuki is responsible for the character designs.

The voice cast includes Yuu Serizawa as Maria Annovazzi, Atsushi Tamaru as Renato di Rubini, Saori Hayami as Aida Amethis, Shuichirou Umeda as Placido di Rubini, and Taku Yashiro as Raimondo Cigata. These actors are set to bring the characters to life.

In addition to the light novel and upcoming anime, a manga adaptation, illustrated by Kaki Nagato, has been serialized on Square Enix’s Manga Up! platform since April 2022, with new volumes released regularly.
