Seoul Ignites with Grand Opening of 2025 World Webtoon Festival

Seoul is currently hosting the highly anticipated 2025 World Webtoon Festival, transforming Lotte Town in Jamsil into a cultural center for digital comics. From October 16 to 26, this eleven-day event will showcase over 200 webtoon intellectual properties. The festival offers an immersive experience with pop-up stores, exhibitions, and fan events.
Spanning five floors of the Lotte World Mall, visitors will find over 1,200 unique webtoon-related merchandise items. This includes collaborations with brands such as Uniqlo, SPAO, and Vivienne. Dedicated pop-up stores cater to fans of titles like Maru is a Puppy, Lookism, and Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. These spaces will feature new merchandise and themed edible treats.

The festival also highlights the connection between digital comics and their animated adaptations. Screenings of webtoon-based animations, including Maru’s Puppy and Yonghan Girl, are scheduled. Interactive programs include live drawing sessions with artists, author autograph events, and a live dubbing performance by voice actor Nam Do-hyung.
A special exhibition, “The Chronicle of Webtoons,” explores the history of Korea’s webtoon industry. Located across six sections at the Lotte World Ice Rink, this exhibit details the medium's evolution. Additionally, Lotte Cinema World Tower will host story concerts where creators behind webtoon adaptations such as Terror Man, Shark, and Itaewon Class will share their insights.
The festival’s finale on October 22 will be the World Webtoon Awards ceremony, recognizing achievements in the webtoon sector. Jointly presented by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), this event reinforces Seoul’s role as a leader in the webtoon industry. It serves as a platform for collaboration among creators, production companies, and fans globally.
Attendees are advised to pre-book for special exhibitions and arrive early for popular photo zones and exclusive merchandise sales. This year's World Webtoon Festival celebrates the expanding international influence of Korean digital comics and animations, making it a key destination for those interested in contemporary Asian pop culture.
